School Visits generally page 1
For me, one of the best parts about being
a children's writer, has been to
be able to visit schools to talk about how
I came to be a writer, how I research the
information for my books, and just how I
came to become a writer at all, for it was
not something that I had planned to do!
I do not make many school visits these days,
because it seems that schools often don't
seem to have the time to fit in a visit from
a real live published Children's Author,
which is rather sad I think.
So on this page you will in due course find
some links to some of the visits to
schools that I have made over the years.
You will be able to do this in one or
both of two ways;
either
1) Click on the numbered school visits
pages below one at a time
or
2) Go to the "School visits by area"
page and look for the links
on that page.

Distance is not a problem for me. Here
I am in the picture below with children from
Harlow Green Junior School, Gateshead, Tyne
and Wear. I spent the morning with
them, on a beautiful March day in the millenium
year.

Carol, my car, would take me to each
of the schools that I visited.

Rather nearer to home home this time, here
I am with Carol and children from Sharpness Primary School, Gloucestershire.

You may have reached this page by clicking
on one of the links on the "School visits
by area" page. This particular section
below came about as a result of a writing
challenge set by me. I quite often set some
sort of writing challenge , especially if
requested to do so by one of the teachers.
This excellent report of my visit, written
by Aimee of Lydney C of E Community School,
Gloucestershire, was written as a result
of one of my writing challenges.
Monday 22nd October
Author Visits Lydney C.E.
Claire Rosemary Jane, an Author from the
West Country, visited school today.
We went down the hall
with the upper school and then we met the
visitor who was Claire Rosemary Jane and
we talked about the books that she has written.
After that she read one of her own books
to us and it was called Carol Corsa and the
angry tractor, it was very good. She
read the book then we watched the television
and she was on the news. It was HTV news,
they were talking about her books and her
characters. Then we all talked a bit more
and she told us about herself and her books.
She asked us if we wanted to ask her some
questions for five minutes and then our teacher
came to the front and we thanked her for
coming.
Then she came to our class for a workshop,
and she read one of her stories to us that
hasn’t been published yet. It was brilliant.
I really liked it. Soon it was playtime
so we had to stop and she told us to do a
bit of work for her to see, and we had to
pick three to send to her and she will pick
one. If you are the one you have won
a prize, and then she went the next class.
I enjoyed it.
